Here’s a guest post from my friend and fellow Fun Mom, Mrs. Bean over at HowMuchIsThatInTacos.com on how to make the perfect hard-boiled egg recipe.

I’ve mastered it! The perfect hard-boiled egg recipe that allows a baby butt smooth peel every time!

With Easter around the corner and the ridiculous price of eggs lately, no one wants to deal with hard-boiled eggs sticking to the shell when you peel them. That’s a waste! We all need to save money on groceries!

A few years back, my cousin-in-law (thanks, Marissa) taught me this trick and it has totally changed the way I make hard-boiled eggs forever. My kids never have a hard time peeling eggs now and they peel beautifully for parties.

Here is the secret:

Boil the water BEFORE you put the eggs in!

That’s it!

I grew up putting eggs in a pot, adding water, boiling, and cooling. But the shell always stuck at least a little bit—such a pain.

Now, I know better:

How to Make The Perfect Hard-Boiled Egg Recipe That Peels Perfectly Every Time

  1. Bring a pot of water to boil (if you’re scared of overflowing the pot when it comes time to add the eggs, put eggs in first, then add water to a safe line. Remove the eggs and set them on the side to wait for the water to boil)
  2. Add the eggs to the boiling water (I like to use a slotted spoon to avoid burns, splashes, and cracks)
  3. Boil for 13 minutes (If the boil is too high and splashing all over, turn it down a smidge to medium-high)
  4. After 13 minutes of boiling, immediately, remove the pot from the stove and bring it to the sink. Carefully pour out the hot water and run cold water over the eggs. Let them sit in cold water until they cool (I usually have to change out the water and add more cold a few times)
  5. Once cool, place them on the counter to dry. When dry, they’re ready to color! (Or eat)

I have been using this method for the last 2 years and it has not failed me yet.

Here’s to happy hard-boiled egg cooking and a bright spring!
